What are Carddies?

Carddies are little card people and animals who live in a box and can be brought to life by children by colouring them in and playing with them.

Who makes them?
Carddies are made by two sisters, Esther and Raquel, with the help/inspiration of their children (and pets).

Esther and Raquel took the decision early on to make the Carddies in the UK, as well as using very eco materials to manufacture the toy.

They say they would only sell a product that they would want to buy for their own children, and are delighted to have made a traditional toy that encourages children to be children and to use their imagination.

Raquel has never quite grown up, which is why she came up with the idea of the Carddies in the first place (initially for her own girls). She is also a bit of a dreamer.

Esther is extremely sensible and practical which is why the toy was able to come to fruition!

Mama Tip

The idea of the Carddies came about by chance…when Raquel started making little cardboard people and animals for her girls to colour in (Esther and Raquel used to make little cardboard dolls themselves as children). It didn't occur to Raquel initially that the idea of Carddies could have such wide appeal...

So perhaps one tip is that simply being a mum can give you ideas of how to make life with children a bit more fun/creative, and that children are the best guides of what will work well as a product.
