Black and white registers the strongest on a new born baby's retina. Strong visual signals to the brain stimulates brain growth and therefore faster visual development. The Little Black & white Book Project creates black and white animal themed illustrations for babies and toddlers. Our range covers board books, flash cards, prints and accessories to equip parents and carers with stylish tools to help their baby's early development. Our mission is to inspire the next generation of animal lovers from as early an age as possible which is why we donate 25% of our profits to wildlife charities as we believe people and planet can profit.

I'm Ruth, founder, owner, creator, general all round one woman business owner. I am mum to 2 year old Teddy, and we live in Bristol.
The idea for the business came when I discovered the benefits of black and white images for new born baby's development when I was pregnant back in 2016. Underwhelmed by what books I could find on the market (I was living in Singapore at the time) I decided that I could put my graphic design career to use and create some of my own. After sharing some small mock up books with other new parents it was clear there was a gap in the market for some high quality content of this kind.
I am passionate about wildlife and conservation and I want the next generation to grow up knowing more about the amazing nature on our planet. If children don't know about nature and wildlife then they can't be expected to care about it. So my mission is to inspire them about as many species the world has to offer from every corner of the globe.
Since launch in 2017 I have won a number of awards including silver at Made For Mums 2018, silver at the Junior Design Awards, Female Start Up of the Year 2018 as well as being selected as one of Theo Paphitis' #SBS members and also as one of the #SmallBiz100 for the Small Business Saturday campaign. My business has taken me to No 10 Downing Street, The House of Lords as well as to many countries during my time living in Asia.
I love helping parents to feel like they are giving their babies the best start in life by providing stylish and helpful tools such as books and flash cards.
Read, read and read some more!
Did you know that children who are read to from birth have 30,000 more words in their vocabulary by the time they are 5? Incredible right? Not only is ready brilliant for building language it also provides time to bond with your little one and fuel their imaginations. I've seen it first hand with my own son, he's already such a book worm at 2 years of age and bedtime stories are one of our most favourite times of the day.
