Contented Calf & Contented Kid

Hi, my name is Elena and I'm a mum of two girls. I suppose the Contented Calf story starts back in the Summer of 2009 with the birth of our first daughter. (Our second was born in Spring 2012). Along with the many hours spent feeding, and my NCT friends’ experiences of feeding their babies, came the discovery of lactogenic foods and herbs and the subsequent creation of The Contented Calf Cookbook: Nourishing Meals for Breastfeeding Mums. Over half of the main meals are designed to be made in the final weeks and months of pregnancy and frozen, so new parents will have a freezer full of tasty, nourishing ‘ready meals’ for the first few weeks of parenthood.

But babies don’t stop growing-up do they? And before I knew it my breastfeeding days were drawing to a close.

Fast-forward five years, and in Summer 2014 my Husband and I moved to California with a Two-Year-Old and a Approaching-Five-Year-Old. One food item they really missed was low sugar kids’ Fromage Frais. (You know, something to give the kids after dinner sometimes that isn’t too sweet, but can masquerade as ‘pudding’...?). I set about developing her own version, and kept on trying until she got it just right. That homemade ‘Fromage Frais’ was the starting point for The Contented Kid Cookbook of Treats & Eats (iBook available via Apple iBooks - hope to develop a hard copy in the future).

My aim is to keep developing and creating products that fit within the Contented Calf brand and ethos.

Mama Tip

Be kind to yourself - slow progress isn't no progress. Sometimes when you're at the 'coal-face' it's hard to see what you have achieved, especially because you're also raising a family at the same time and that is SO important. But step back, and look at yourself and celebrate yourself as you would do a friend.
