Lucy Tapper started creating and developing her unique product ideas in her head whilst watching her young children play daily in their greenhouse. Lucy set out with no financial backing, no contacts and a sketchbook full of ideas, to become one of the most creative and talented illustrators & product designers in the UK.
If there is one piece of advice I try to always adhere to, it's to always make time for family.
Work hard? Yes. Work every waking hour? No. Making time to be with my children is the priority, and makes for a happier healthier mind and a more harmonious relationship between work and home. This in turn leads to me being raring to go with product ideas and new illustrations, sometime too many for us to keep up with!
I also make sure that members of the FromLucy team who have children can leave work at school pick up time too. I really do believe that a proper balance is the key to a happy life. I don't think many people look back upon their life and say "I wish I worked more"!
But all that said, even if I am not at my computer or sketchbook, my brain is always ticking away with new ideas. Half the battle of running a successful illustrated gift business is being prepared and ready mentally to then transfer those ideas to paper and screen!
Here on All By Mama we are very proud to offer the first in the series of the Hedgehugs children's books for our lovely customers to enjoy! The story follows Horace and Hattie Hedgehog, who are the very best of friends, and enjoy doing everything together. However, there is just one thing they cannot do together... they can't hug. They're just too spiky!
In this book, written by our very own Steve Wilson and Lucy Tapper and illustrated beautifully by Lucy, find out if Horace and Hattie succeed in their quest for the perfect Hedgehug... and perhaps also answer one of life's greatest mysteries at the same time!
Hedgehugs has won many fans around the world since its release and has been read on Cbeebies Bedtime Stories, as well as being shortlisted for the Heart Of Hawick Awards, the Evening Standard's Oscars' First Book Prize, and The People's Book Prize. Enjoy reading this to your little ones, or give this as a gift to someone special.
