Butterfly Track

  Four Marks, Hampshire, England

My love of nature and art is deeply rooted in my family. My great grandmother was a designer for William Morris & Co in the 1900s, producing fabric and wallpaper designs inspired by nature. Through the generations we’ve noticed the seasons, learned the names of things and valued the natural world.

I’ve worked for art galleries and nature conservation organisations in Britain, Ireland and America for 15 years. Six years after my first son Henry was born, and with my toddler Freddy in tow, I took the plunge into freelancing, as a wildlife illustrator and copywriter. Running Butterfly Track gives me the freedom to be there for my boys when they are not at school. It also allows me to take on projects with interesting clients and grow the audience for my greetings card and gift range. I love to produce high-quality, eco-friendly and affordable gifts.

All of my original wildlife illustrations are based on first-hand observations from my garden in Hampshire, on nature reserves and in the wider landscape. Despite crashing through the countryside, usually armed with sticks, my two boys have been with me for some of my most memorable wildlife encounters.

My work is about capturing a fleeting moment and sharing it through colourful, contemporary designs that delight and connect you with wildlife. Because Butterfly Track loves wildlife I try to use materials which are friendlier to the environment wherever possible. Each card that you buy is made on sustainable paper stock and comes with a 100% recycled envelope in a compostable corn starch packet. Our sets of badges and fridge magnets are mounted on 100% recycled card.

Mama Tip

When life and work are getting on top of you, head outdoors with your children to the nearest green space. Being closer to wildlife and wild places is great for you and your family.
