An Orange Hat

  Chichester, UK

I was born in Kosovo and lived there till 2000. I've made clothes ever since I got my first doll. I made a miniature of nearly every dress my mum had made for her with the scraps of fabric. I was always into art and design and loved creating things. I studied graphic design at university though didn't quite finish getting my degree - I was interrupted first by war then love and marriage.

I didn't get into properly making children's clothes until I had my first baby in 2005. He was the perfect inspiration. It was an orange hat I made for him that started it all, hence the name of the company. We were living in New York then, which was an incredibly inspiring and encouraging place for me to design and create unique handmade items in. Took a long four year pause in Africa between 2009-2013 and had my second baby there. Although I had the intention to continue running my business there, it didn't work out for various different reasons. I did make lots of clothes for my boys and presents to give away.

We moved back to UK last year and as the boys are now 9 and 4 years old, and our house nearly all scrubbed, painted and repaired, I'm dying to make the most of those free minutes and get back to doing what I love. For the first time I now also have my own, purpose built, creative space at the end of the garden, which I'm very grateful for. All I need to do now is keep creating... and learn a thing or two about running a business.
